2022 Big Changes on the Horizon for Stormwater Management in Indiana

Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has been working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and stakeholders to transition from a Permit by Rule to a Master General Permit. As of December 18, 2021, Indiana no longer administers the construction stormwater program or the municipal stormwater program under Indiana Administrative Code (327 IAC 15-5 (Rule 5) or 327-15-13 (Rule 13)).

Permit coverage is now issued under the Construction Stormwater General Permit (CSGP) and the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) General Permit.

With this transition to General Permits, local entities need to update their programs to meet the requirements in the General Permits. The INAFSM Stormwater Committee is working closely with IDEM Stormwater representatives to update or develop guidance documents.

The INAFSM Stormwater Committee would love your assistance in updating guidance documents, creating guidance documents, or other helpful tools. Are you already creating fact sheets or documents for your community? Would it make sense to pool your resources with other INAFSM members and create something bigger? If so, please contact Amy Harvell ([email protected]) for more information.
