Webinar: NFIP Fundamentals for New Floodplain Managers
Wednesday, March 30, 2022, 10:00 AM - 11:00 PM EDT
Category: Events

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) provides flood insurance to property owners, renters, and businesses, and having this coverage helps them recover faster when floodwaters recede. The responsibility for reducing flood losses is shared by all units of government – local, state, and federal. Fulfilling this responsibility depends on having the knowledge and skill to plan and implement needed floodplain management measures. The NFIP works with communities required to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations that help mitigate flooding effects. This webinar will discuss the community’s role in the NFIP, the basics of flood maps and data; minimum regulatory requirements; and understanding the community responsibly in administering NFIP floodplain regulations.

The virtual webinar is open to all; however, local and county officials working in emergency management, building code administration, and floodplain management are strongly encouraged to attend. The webinar is presented by FEMA Region 5’s Mitigation Division, Floodplain Management and Insurance Branch.
