INAFSM Conference Scholarships

The INAFSM Board offers conference scholarships to applicants who otherwise would not be able to attend the INAFSM annual conference. 

Conference Scholarship Criteria

  • Must be able to explain how the scholarship would advance your career.
  • Must be able to explain how the scholarship would benefit your community.
  • Must be an INAFSM member in good standing whose dues are current.

Conference Scholarship Recipient Obligations

  • Willingness to serve on an INAFSM committee for one year.
  • Willingness to work at the conference registration desk as needed and /or on other conference related work duties as assigned by executive director.

INAFSM will grant one conference registration scholarship to a floodplain manager and one to a stormwater manager. The deadline for scholarship applications is June 26, 2020. The application and details can be downloaded here (coming soon).


Previous Conference Scholarship Recipients

(2019) Kimberley Cearnal is the building Secretary for the Hendricks County Planning & Building Department. She would like to obtain knowledge regarding Floodplain Management from a beginner’s perspective. Kimberley is interested in learning the basic of the National Flood Insurance Program. In gaining knowledge she will be able to explain to the citizens what a floodplain is and why they should not construct there, and how we are trying to protect them and their investment.

(2019) Sandy Mosier is the Morgan County Plan Commissioner, she is interested becoming a Certified Flood Risk Manager in Morgan County. She feels it is important to educate the residents of Morgan County on reducing flood risk in the community by promoting responsible planning around special flood hazard areas.

(2019) Karan Barnhill is a Stormwater coordinator in Evansville, Indiana. Karan is eager to attend educational workshops and gain knowledge from individuals who can share their experiences to assist her in guiding the public and public officials in floodplain and stormwater management.
